Mapping Canada's plant hardiness shift
Canada's plant hardiness map (the one gardeners use to decide what they can grow) got its first update in over a decade. The CBC ran a piece this week, and I kept seeing the same headline: most of the country shifted warmer. I wanted to see the shape of the change.
So I built an interactive comparison. Drag the slider between the previous edition (1981–2010) and the latest (1991–2020). Click anywhere to pin a spot and you'll see your old zone, your new zone, and what's newly viable to plant in your area.
Hardiness zones use 30-year climate windows, so "the 2026 map" doesn't exist. The 1991–2020 edition IS the new one. Data from Natural Resources Canada (planthardiness.gc.ca).
