The only quality chair you’re going to find for $80 is a used commercial grade chair. My advice is that if your’e on a budget, but you do a lot of sitting and need a serious chair, go down to your local used/refurbished office furniture store and get yourself a high quality chair for cheap. A quality chair new typcially costs $200 minimum, the best ones are $1500, but these are fly to mars type quality chairs, but hey you probably could find a nice chair used like a Herman Miller or a Steelcase for under $100 and you’d be amazed at the quality of the fabric or leather and the foam.

Wow… that is one terrible purchase. You should think about investing in a better chair. You know, for 80$ you don’t get much these days. For 140-150$ you could get something very acceptable. Check the rebates at Staples or Costco, they have very interresting products for low prices.

I would not recommend buying home furniture at Zellers or Walmart if you want something durable.

Unless you’re strapped for cash (like I have been many times in the past), a good office chair is nothing to skimp on. For anything that you spend several hours a day with (a chair, computer, mouse, keyboard), make sure you get the good stuff or else they will wear out quickly or work in a sub par manner, not to mention make your work time miserable.

I totally understand how you feel, I mean, it doesn't matter how much you spend for a chair as long as it serves it purpose for a long time. Producers of chairs should make sure that what they produce should actually satisfy the users, may it be an expensive one or a low priced chair, wasting money on this low quality typed chairs is really gonna give the users a hard time dealing with it. Even at $80.00, that’s a horrible example of a budget line chair. I’m hard on office chairs myself, but I’m not sure I’ve ever had one that fell apart that badly so quickly. If I’m looking at the pics correctly, it looks like you’ve had to use some type of duct tape on the seat itself? That’s terrible. It’s nice that you have a blog to communicate your experiences.
