Google results blocker plus list of content farms

Yesterday, google announced a chrome extension that allows users to block specific domains from google’s search results page. This has probably been released as a response to the recent criticism that google has been under for not being able to filter content farms out of their results. I installed the extension yesterday, but did not know where to start with blocking domains. I haven’t really been paying attention to content farms. I pretty much just ignore them. The extension creates a link on the results page next to each result to block that specific domain. Blocking domains by this method will take a while to create a comprehensive list of blocked domains.

Jon Gales has compiled a list of content farms. This is a great list of domains to get a list of blocked domains started.

Here is a link to the blog post about the chrome extension.

    My new favourite meme

Bill O’Reilly making stupid comments on TV is nothing new, but last month he had one of his worst. David Silverman, from American Atheists, was on the show defending an atheist billboard, and O’Reilly tries to prove the existence of god with this gem of a quote, “Tide goes in, tide goes out, never a miscommunication. You [Silverman], can’t explain that. ”

That quote has spawned my new favourite meme. I have been lurking reddit over the past few days, and have been saving the best of the images.

First, check out The Colbert Report Covering the quote:

Then, check out the images that redditors have been hard at work making:

Canada’s new bandwidth caps in perspective

The interwebs has been in uproar during the last 24 hours about the new Usage Base Billing that the CRTC has allowed ISPs to implement. Some of the new usage caps are ridiculous. For example, starting March 1st, TekSavvy customers will have a bandwidth cap of 25GB/month, down from 200GB/month.

ArsTechnica has a good write-up about the situation, and the Liberals are already calling for the decision to be reversed.

Reddit user CGSColin put it in perspective the best in the following graphic:

    Submerged Park Bench

I was out for a run around Elk lake in Victoria, BC and had to stop for this photo op. The water-level is pretty high right now from the coastal spring runoff. It was lucky that I had my iPhone with me to take the shot. I took my socks and shoes off and waded out to the bench. I think it made for an awesome pic.

    Yup, Americans are still Crazy

I don’t blame you if you can’t make it through the whole video. It is pretty painful to watch. I still don’t understand people like this. With most people, I can put myself in their shoes and understand why our opinions are different, not with people like this though. You have to see this to believe it. Check it out….
