I have been badly neglecting this blog over the last month or two. Last week, I finished my last exam for the summer semester and have decided to kick start this blog back into action.
This week, I will be posting a picture a day. Here is the first one. I am back home for a break between semesters and my family is going to be cooking a lamb in a pit next weekend.
For those unfamiliar with cooking underground, check out this article.
At the start of last winter’s semester, I bought a new office chair at Zellers. It is just over six months old and is in pretty rough shape already. The fake leather has worn down in a few places. I have patched these areas with duct tape. One of the arms has also broken off.
I do spend a fair amount of time at my desk, but this is just unacceptable from an $80 chair. Check out the pics below.

I have a quick rant for today that I want to get off my chest:
Where did convection ovens get their name?
By convection oven, I mean the new generation of microwaves and ovens that are fan assisted. What I don’t understand is that traditional ovens are really convection ovens. They transfer their heat via convection. Convection is the way that heat moves through liquids and gases. Basically, it is the process of hot air rising and cool air sinking. This is exactly what happens in traditional ovens without fans. Why aren’t traditional ovens called convection ovens?
Some fan assisted ovens are called by their correct name, but not all of them are.
Here are my definitions:
Convection Oven: Traditional ovens that do not use fans.
Fan-assisted Ovens: Newer ovens that are, you guessed it, fan-assisted.
Those are the only two terms that are needed. Now just go out into the world and use them correctly.
Two of my buddies, Aiden and Tyler, have just left my home in Victoria, BC to bike across Canada. I went on a 100km ride with them for the first leg and I am glad that I am not going all the way. Just thinking about the whole trip makes me tired. This is the sort the thing that everyone talks about, but nobody actually does. Aiden and Tyler are actually doing it
They are planning on stopping at the Big Valley Creationist Museum in Alberta, which I have blogged about previously. Since last posting about it, the museum has produced a promotional video that I have embedded below. I am looking forward to Tyler and Aiden’s first hand report
Check out their blog and Tyler’s Fickr photostream. Good luck with the trip guys, all the best.
Here’s that Creationist Museum promo video for a quick laugh:
Yes Mom, you are the target audience of this post. I thought that this Dilbert strip was especially funny as your sewing machine is more advanced than your computer (which isn’t too shabby either).
Have a great day and thanks for being my Mom.
I am in the middle of exams right now, currently burning the midnight oil. I don’t have time to do a proper post right now, but I will share a REALLY good article that I ran into last night.
CodeClimber’s article Burning the midnight oil outlines why working late at night/early in the morning works for him and the challenges that it poses.
Go check it out!
