Very informative text. I've found your site via Google and I'm really glad about the information you provide in your posts. Btw your blogs layout is really broken on the Kmelon browser. Would be cool if you could fix that. Anyhow keep up the good work!

If you didn't already get it replaced, do so asap.

My cord was having the same problem and it *did* catch fire. Apple replaced it.

kinda similar to my issue: the cord is burnt from the inside out near the magnet part of the power cord
and it sucks because, just like yours, most of the wires were separated when it fried and now i have to move it in a certain position to get any power from it
and because my lappy is over a year old, i don't think the Apple Care stuff will cover it any longer
the worst part is that if you touch the part where the frayed wires are poking out you get a share of the current flowing through and it sometimes sparks, which could potentially ignite the pants i wear under the cord

yours doesn't seem quite as bad does it? =D

The problem is on the low voltage side of the transformer, so it is not too dangerous. I am still going to open up the case and re-wire it though.

Your actually tempting fate if you have a loose conductor wire on the 120V side of the circuit ( Thats the side that plugs in the killer wall receptacle) If you did have a short in the cord, it would have exploded by now, and I do mean explode. Where the danger lies is the fact that your electrical pathway to the notebook power transformer is being narrowed. What you end up with is a type of miniature heating element at the point of cable failure so this thing could heat up and burn.
If your adept at technical stuff tear it apart nd replace the power cord.
If your not inclined that way I would replace the power transformer as soon as possible.
Electrical fires can cause some major damage.

I have a similar problem, with a Windows-based laptop. Ironically, someone told me to get a Mac, as such things apparently never happen. Unfortunately, whenever the power goes, so does my wireless connection. Ugh.

It is just a fake wood table, but it still is a bit sketchy and I have been unplugging it when I'm not around.

Thanks for the concern though.

I'd be careful with that because it looks like that's a wood table of sorts and it could possibly catch on fire left too long unattended and plugged in.
