I was back at school yesterday after a 4 month hiatus, and I noticed something about firefox today because of it. I have been using Google’s Chrome on my computer at home, and haven’t touched Firefox in several months. The computers at school use Firefox, so I was forced to use Firefox for the first time in a few months today.
For the previous few years before chrome, I was exclusively a Firefox user. I noticed a difference between the two browsers today that I probably wouldn’t have noticed if I hadn’t been using chrome exlusively.
The open new tab option is in a different spot in the two browser’s right click menus. This might seem like a pretty insignificant difference, but it is actually pretty annoying to accidentally open links in new windows when I mean to open them in new tabs.
I really should take this a cue to use the CTRL key more to open new links.

Leave a CommentJust center-click on any link and it will open in a new tab. I use Chrome at home and it drives me nuts to use Firefox now because I set up the hot-letter searches. So I’m constantly typing (for example) “g lost” into the address bar expecting to get a google search of “Lost”, or “i lost” expecting to get an IMDb search of “Lost”. Instead, especially for the latter, I get a default search engine search for “I lost”. I didn’t lose!

I have a scroll mouse so I just click the scroll wheel and it opens in a new tab. I think it works the same way on a 3 button mouse or they have some 3 button mouse emulators online. If you can’t alter the school computer, you are stuck.

Even I used to have that problem in my college. I would accidentally click the “new window” option instead of the “new tab”. But then I got to know about the scroll button click, so now it has become much easier.
